Ever wonder the secret recipe to a happier life topped by an amazing smile? Starting over sure can pique that interest from the deepest directions. Beginning again can be mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially taxing. Ding! Often, the reason for starting over can be as stressful as a loss of a loved one, a brutal break up, or natural disaster. Other times, we may just need to find ourselves in a new environment offering us the best transition. Whatever the reason, a few rules come in handy for results beyond their surface. Let’s dip in!
#1 Do your research. Make a list of the places and people you'd most want to work for. Then find out as much as you can about them. Research their history, their mission statement, and their best practices. This method is not just for job hunting. Learn as much as possible about the place you choose for transition. Being the newbie is scary and adventurous all in one. UNDERSTAND IT! OWN IT!
#2 Your mind is a beautiful tool! Live, love, and let go! Your new beginning is for progression. Do not dwell on losses. Only dwell on that which keeps you moving forward. This is versatile and applies to our attitudes, our habits, our exercise, our clothing styles, spending habits, education levels, etc. You are your own success. Accept it regardless of your fears.
#3 Give yourself time to adjust. Most often the idea of a transition instantly adds anxiety to the minds of many. (Anxiety can be exciting and hard at the same time) What will I wear? What will my peers be like? Will my friends still be my friends? Will I make new friends? Is this job truly the job I want? Will I be able to pay my bills if something goes wrongs even though I have a nest egg? Is my favorite color a match for my new beginning? What part of me will I awaken first after I have released the old and accepted the new? OMG, WHERE WILL I GET MY EYEBROWS DONE?!
STOP!!!
BREATHE!!!
DO SOMETHING SILLY OR FUN THAT YOU LOVE……. ACCEPT. THEN GET SLEEP!
#4 After you are well rested and organized…. NETWORK!!!!! NETWORK!!! NETWORK!!! It is true when they say life is one huge recycle bin. This option is not the most important, but it is important. In order to understand how your loss, hurt, unexpected move, or choice has affected you, you must connect in the right time. If you do not feel as if you are the best you, spend a little more time alone before joining the group. Networking happens most successfully when we know ourselves and accept ourselves. It is then that we can begin to attract and connect to those we truly desire in our lives, not those who attach to our empty space.
#5 Last, but certainly not least, never allow a negative thought to remain or linger. Reject it and replace it with a positive thought. The simplest task, such as choosing dinner, can become cumbersome and negative. However, you must step in with your best foot forward every inch of the way. Does this mean plaster a fake smile on across your jaws? Most certainly not! It means finding the positive in every aspect of your life over time. One of the biggest downers of human development is the fear of getting older, unattractive, and lost. The fear does not have to be so! Can you find your happy? No need, it is right in front of you! Be positive, strive for excellence, and never let a failure into your life. Perfect is not the answer. Learn how to extract factors that constantly teach, excite, and push you to truly see how beautiful this life, your life, is! No matter the arena, you can start over just as I have and surpass all brick walls along the way. Life is like a box of chocolates. If you do not like chocolates, share them with someone else who does and I guarantee your efforts will be paid forward!
